Here’s my first big assignment from Make Art That Sells designing a tin can. 😊 I added two more for variety. I’m enjoying having assignments with dead lines and pushing myself to try new things. I am learning so much about art markets and I’m so excited about it. 💕
In early November, I was asked to teach art classes for the city of Copperas Cove. I wasn’t sure at first if I should do it because of an art program I am enrolled in all next year in addition to keeping up with my art products inventory and small business. I thought about it for a couple weeks and decided to go for it. Here’s my thought process.
I taught art with my first and fourth grade students even though I am a self taught artist and was not the art teacher. At that time there were no art teachers. Anyway, I incorporated art lessons in math, social studies, science, music and reading. The kids were so excited about having pastels and tempura paints, colored pencils, markers and crayons. I had to purchase all these supplies myself and happily invested in my students’ joy and creativity. We painted fish, cut out geometric shapes and created a collage of people from around the world based on a social studies reading lesson. We made flower gardens and painted our hearts away while singing songs and laughing so hard! I happened to have a piano in my fourth grade classroom and I played while those cuties sang while creating art. We drew plants for our science lesson and gave them faces and names. We finger painted with tempura and even painted neat things for our math lessons. Needless to say, it was the most enjoyable part of their learning when they smiled most, sang without care and got lost in the joy of creating art. Blending and mixing colors always filled the room with sighs of wonder and joy while their little eyes got bigger and bigger. I figured, why NOT offer classes?
So here I am now ready to start teaching art classes in Copperas Cove. We are family friendly small town. It’s quiet for the most part and slower paced. Nonetheless, I am very humbled and grateful for this opportunity. Classes will include informal art lessons and arts & crafts such as hand painted ornaments, painting leaves and branches and a host of other fun things. Adult classes will also be available. I’ll be showing how I mix and blend paints and how I use mixed media. If I can do this, anyone can, believe me, and it’s so relaxing and fun. It’s actually part of my daily routine. I pray and meditate when I paint especially as the sun starts to rise. Gratitude seems to pour out even more whenever I have the happy opportunity to create. Art has a way of healing, relaxing, calming and exciting the heart and soul. =)
This is a whole new world for me to go from teacher to a retired teacher giving art lessons, having a small business and figuring out where I fit in this wonderful world of art. I’m slowly learning about the art market and all the opportunities. Excited is an understatement. =) Any how, I knew I wanted to retire from teaching to pursue having a career in art even though I had no idea how to go about it whatsoever. I had a short two year slower pace as a result of healing from breast cancer and I’ve learned a lot since Summer 2014. There’s so much more to learn, so much more. Next year will be the first year since 2014 without any surgeries and much less fatigue!!! I’m so excited about that! Sometimes the adrenalin kicks in and I think about all the things involved in getting this art program off the ground while preparing for the intense year long art program I’ll start in just a few days to running my small business which can from time to time feel overwhelming. However, I remind myself to just be brave and dive in. I have nothing to lose and nothing to be afraid of, really. There’s no such thing as failure but only learning and growth. I have much to gain and learn and I am confident children and adults will enjoy these classes, that I will keep learning and opportunities will continue coming while I try my best to enjoy this whole process as it unfolds.
And, oh!!! I forgot to share that I’m the new chalk artist at Copperas Cove’s Home Base as of this month. The former chalk artist called and asked if I was interested in the job, referred me and here I am again trying something new but enjoying it nonetheless. It’s been an interesting journey but one full of surprises and enjoyment, learning and growth. I’m going for it and it is my wish if you haven’t already that you also go for whatever it is you love to do! I’m jumping into this ocean trusting land will rise to meet my feet where I’m destined to be as I move out and give this a try and give it my best. =)
I wish you and your family a very happy New Year. May your year be filled with joy, peace, contentment, satisfaction and fruitfulness.
All the best,
My kindergarten six year old grandson Cohen’s painting. He’s my little painting buddy. Children will blend with their fingers, learn to use a paint brush and eventually mixed media. Children will also learn to draw cute animals, butterflies, flowers and other fun things.
Schedule will post in less than 12 hours. Be on the look out!

Love these little mounted prints. I like to encourage myself that I blossom moment by moment through how I treat others, faith and resting knowing everything is falling into place. There’s is nothing bigger than the peace that resides in my heart and that sweet peace allows me to grow and reach for the sun, accept spring showers, endure desert heat and even blankets of snow. Struggles are a part of life but they strengthen me and teach me. Though darkness may fall upon us, daybreak ALWAYS greets the night. May your heart be filled with peace. Blossom like a flower! 🌺

Did this on the road back home from Lubbock last weekend. ❤️ There is never reason to want anyone’s path except your own. There will only ever be one of you in this entire universe. You are born on purpose, for a purpose and the path you choose and create is your very own special path made just for you. Your path is unique and I believe destined and sacred. Cheers to our very own paths. May our journey be filled with wonder, hope and joy and strength to endure all seasons. ❤️

Watercolor daisies. Paint them whatever color you want. 🙂 Flowers make me feel happy and loved. Something about them reminds me of Beauty and Love that never fade. And yes I listen to ocean waves sometimes while I paint. Very relaxing and refreshing. 🙂
